I love to find cleaning tips for busy moms because we all want a clean home, but sometimes it just isn’t feasible.
Between raising children, running errands, and everything else life throws at us, a clean home can easily end up on the back burner, if we let it. A clean home is a comfortable and happy home (studies prove it). These 21 cleaning tips will help ensure the house stays nice and tidy.
1) Have a Routine
When you know what you’re doing and where you’re headed, you’ll get things done quicker. You can print out my list and use it in your house.
2) Pick Up While You Clean
Clutter can hinder you from getting to what needs to be cleaned. So, as you clean, pick up and put things away.
3) Stock Up on Supplies
Instead of having all your cleaning supplies in one place, have multiples in several rooms. This way, you can do quick cleans.
4) Wash Toys in Laundry Bag
Everyone knows toys can get pretty grimy. Throw them into a mesh bag and into the washer and they’ll come out all clean.
5) Hydrogen Peroxide is Your Cleaning Buddy
Hydrogen peroxide is an awesome multi-purpose fluid. You can spray it on cuts or sores. But, it can also be used to clean mirrors, windows, and toilets.
6) Use Pillowcases on Fans
If you want to give your fans a quick clean without the mess, cover them with pillowcases and wipe.
7) Utilize your Vacuum
Instead of sweeping your floors, just use your vacuum. Many have floor options now and it will save you lots of time. I love my robot vacuum! I set it to run every morning at 9:00 am!
8) Clean Your Iron
Is your iron black and scorching your clothes? Use your iron on the steam setting and iron salt. It will clean right off.
9) Remove Pet Hair
Leave a lint roller in your living room so you can do quick wipe-downs to remove pet hair. (Leave another in your car to use before you get out)
10) Get Rid of Water Stains
Having a problem with water stains? Cut a few lemons in half and rub them on the problem areas. Give the acid time to work, then rinse everything off.
11) Clean your mirrors with newspaper
If you want streak-free windows and mirrors, try using your favorite glass cleaner with a ball of newspaper or a squeegee instead of paper towels.
12) Use Old Toothbrushes
The garbage disposal can get really dirty and filled with stuff. Use an old toothbrush to scrub it down. Finish it off with a spritz of lemon juice for a fresh smell.
13) Scrub Your Oven
Put a layer of baking soda in your emptied oven and spritz it with vinegar. Get something else done while it soaks, then come back and it should wipe off pretty easily.
14) Clean Your wood
If your budding artists have gotten a little marker on your wood floor, just dab it with toothpaste and scrub it off.
15) Clean Your Carpet
Speaking of stains, spraying protein stains with peroxide will get those out. For tougher ones, spray some clear Windex or Spot Shot on the stains, place a towel over it, and lightly iron it until it’s gone.
16) De-Grim Your Vents
Air vents are some of the hardest spots to clean but are extremely important for the safety of the house. Put a towel on a butter knife and wipe it along with the vent for an easy clean.
17) Clean ceiling fans
Don’t forget to clean off ceiling fans. You can use a pillowcase – put it on & pull the dust off. It will get caught in the pillow case.
18) Clean as You Go
Don’t leave everything to do all at once. Tidy and clean as you go. As my mom says, “Back out of a room.” This way you can see what needs to be cleaned & put away before you leave the room.
19) Prioritize
Having a perfect home isn’t a necessity. Do what you can and if you fall behind, don’t be hard on yourself.
20). Use oils
My husband will grab peppermint oil, mix a few drops with water and clean our granite countertops. He tells everyone that it is the best granite cleaner he has ever found!
21) Delegate
You’re not a superwoman & you don’t need to be one. Use this as a teaching tool for your children and give out age-appropriate chores to your kids.

Hey, Kristi! I have two German Shepards, so you can imagine how hairy my carpet can get! I know that you’ve mentioned cleaning tips for carpet stains and dog fur on clothes, but I’m wondering if you have any tips for dog hair on carpets. Now that would be helpful! My standard vacuum doesn’t work very well, so I’m thinking about maybe hiring someone. Thanks for sharing!

For moms, it is actually a great idea to teach children to do basic household chores, especially at a young age. Keeping your house neat and clean is also essential so that your loved ones can stay away from diseases because a dirty home is a door to illness.
I really liked the tips you have shared specially the one that cleaning supplies should be placed in all the rooms as it helps in quick cleaning. One thing to remember keep the products away from children’s reach.

Thanks for this informative tips. I wish I have read this tips before 5 years . Because I was working as a teacher and so I had a busy life . So my husband hired a cleaning maid from RBC (Royal Building Cleaning), Canada. But now I have resigned the job and have enough time to do my daily chores 😀

I was familiar with the cleaning power of hydrogen peroxide but I had no idea that it worked on mirrors. I gave it a try a few days ago and now it’s part of my cleaning tool kit. Thank you!

I totally agree with your about the Bounty towels with Dawn. They are really amazing. I combine them with purified (boiled) water and the results are always the same – shiny windows.

I really have no excuse for not having a clean and tidy house as I am a stay-home-homeschooling mom, but I just SUCK at being tidy. I get pretty fed up always being the one to notice that something needs to be cleaned up, but I am trying to come to terms with it.
I love that we have clothes lines in our rental yard, except that the hubby does (most of) the laundry so I don’t even bother suggesting he hang things outside. I’m just grateful he manages to get some laundry done each week.
I try to remember to wipe the inside of the fridge before I do groceries because the fridge is pretty empty at that point. I don’t always (ok, almost never) remember to do this though.
Great tips!

I like the suggestion of cleaning things as you go. While my wife is working I tend to not do as many things, but when she comes home we get to work and she gets on my back about leaving things around. If you don’t have time to clean then you might want to hire a professional.

I am definitely going to have to schedule in more deep cleans for my carpets. However, vacuuming weekly already seems like a stretch with my busy schedule. I’ll have to hire a professional cleaner to come in and steam the carpets for me, because I want my home to last!

Another handy tip is to use disinfectant wipes in your bathroom and kitchen, as you don’t need to worry about sprays and cloths. You can just wipe and go, which is far easier and more convenient.

I so love these tips. As a mom myself, I struggle so hard between keeping up with the tidiness of the home and raising a 2 year old child. But I think clean as you go is a powerful message, and we do not have to wait to get the situation worse! thanks for this!
