We have four kids and they are all two years apart: 8, 6, 4, 2. This means that when our 8 year old has football practice, his little brother’s and his little sister does not want to sit and watch it for two hours.
I can tell you that after two hours, you would see this…
Or this…
Or this one…
“I am SO bored right now… and sleepy. Getting very sleepy.”
While I do think that it is really important for them to learn how to sit still long enough to watch part of the game or practice, I think that asking them to sit there for two hours is just about impossible.
I try to provide them with other activities during their big brother’s practice time.
First things first, make sure that you take the essentials: Snacks & a drink! I give it five minutes into the practice before our kids ask for a snack and their drink. I love Horizon Organic snacks. I usually just throw a whole box into my sport’s bag for the kids. Our kids love their Graham crackers because they are yummy and I love them because they are organic & so much healthier than most of the snacks on the shelves.
Next, I always try to take something fun for the kids to do. I might take a ball for the little kids to throw around, or a coloring book or crayons.
My latest idea (and one that our kids love) is this scavenger hunt that I have made them. I just came up with things that I would have at any sports game or practice. Just give them a crayon or pencil and let them go to town!
You can print off this Scavenger Hunt by clicking HERE.
I hope that your kids love this as much as mine do!
