Reading is fun & your kids will think so, too!

Most of you know that I was a teacher and I am a stay at home mom and a part-time play therapist.  I am surrounded by kids all day and I really enjoy teaching them and watching them learn.  I was excited to find a new company called Bookboard.  You should check it out.  I’ll break Bookboard down for you in this post.  (this is not an affiliate link)

I wanted to write a little review on this for you, because anything that educates our children is a great thing!  Also- they are offering a free trial right now, so I wanted to be sure that you saw that while it lasted.

What is it?  It is a subscription service for children’s books – it streams books for your children (It is similar to netflix with movies, but for books).  It has an iPad app so that you kids can read books on the iPad as often as they want.

This company is made to foster children’s love of reading.

So, Bookboard’s library collection includes over 300 books!  This is best for age 2-7, but really any age can use it.  If they can look at a book, they can use this.

When I started, I set up a profile for each of our kids.  Now, I can see how they are doing, watch their progress, and change the level of books that they are reading.  I can suggest categories of books, and gain insight into their child’s reading with fun progress reports on the amount of time spent reading, the number of pages, titles of books and more.

I loved the goal of the company: to motivate kids to spend more time reading.   Perfect!

This is fun to do together and for the kids to do on their own.   I love to use this app for quiet time (all of our kids get quiet time- even our almost 7 year old.  I think that kids need a little alone time during the day to rest.)  It is perfect for them to use for this.  They are learning and having some time alone, concentrating on books.   Screen Shot 2013-08-05 at 9.57.10 PM

I love it because it is fun, sort of like a game, for the kids, but they are reading!   It adjusts as they get older, so that was a great aspect for me.  It works by unlocking the next set of books once your child has mastered the last set (unlocking more challenging books).  They also recommend books for your child.

The other great thing is that they offer a free trial, which I am taking advantage of right now.  (If you decide to stick with it, it is really cheap- $4.99 a month- the cost of ONE book and you are getting over 300 & its growing.)

Here are a few examples of collections on there that we love- they have fiction, non-fiction, chapter books & more:

You should head over & do the free trial.  Its free & your kids will enjoy it, I’m sure!   The website is https://bookboard.com.   I hope that your kiddos enjoy it as much as mine do!

Oh- I wanted to make sure that I included a picture of the app so that you will know it when you see it!
