The 4 books I want to read this summer

I am finding that I am listening to audiobooks on Audible more & more. It allows me to watch the kids in the pool without looking away to read. It allows me to be entertained while I run (AKA: Keeps me distracted). It allows our whole family to listen to a book in the car instead of watching a movie on a road trip.

Today, I want to share 4 audiobooks that I want to listen to this summer. You can find all of these on Audible and you can try them all out for free with this 30-day free trial. Honestly, you can find just about any type of book that you want. Audible has a huge unmatched selection of audiobooks, so it is hard for me to narrow it down. However… these are the ones that I’m looking forward to.

1- The X-Files: Cold Cases. I wanted to mention this one because it is a best-seller on Audible. It is an exclusive Audible original drama that features narration from Gillian Anderson (Emmy award-winner as well as Golden Globe winner) and David Duchovny (Golden Globe winner). Cold Cases is a great (thrilling) addition to The X-Files, that is set after the events of The X-Files: I Want to Believe.

Cold Cases provides additional backstory to the incidents that pulled Mulder and Scully out of reclusion prior to 2016’s miniseries revival, a database breach at FBI headquarters allows an unknown group to access and capitalize on those investigations left unsolved – dubbed cold cases – by the secret department once known as The X-Files.

When friends & Enemies that were thought to be gone start coming back, Mulder & Scully come out of anonymity to face a growing conspiracy that invoices the US government, as well as other forces… not of this world.

2- Dr. Who. My friends have talked about this show for years and I’ve never watched it or listened to it, so I figured there is no time like the present. The Doctor isn’t a normal doctor, handing out prescriptions, but instead, he is an alien Time Lord. He travels through space & time to fight evil. Once he dies, he regenerates into a new form (he has been 11 people).

It kind of reminded me of Quantum Leap, but I guess I’ll have to listen to it to really know if they are similar or not.

3- Secrets of The Tulip Sisters:
I just heard of this one from a friend last week, but when I looked it up on Audible, it was a best-seller, as well. According to Audible, it is “From the New York Times best-selling author of Daughters of the Bride.” about the unbreakable bond between sisters.

“Kelly Murphy’s life as a tulip farmer is pretty routine – up at dawn, off to work, lather, rinse, repeat. But everything changes one sun-washed summer with two dramatic homecomings: Griffith Burnett – Tulpen Crossing’s prodigal son, who’s set his sights on Kelly – and Olivia, her beautiful, wayward, and, as far as Kelly is concerned, unwelcome sister. But Olivia’s return isn’t as triumphant as she pretends. Her job has no future, and ever since her dad sent her away from the bad boy she loved, she has felt cut off from her past. She’s determined to reclaim her man and her place in the family – whether her sister likes it or not. For 10 years she and Kelly have been strangers. Olivia will get by without her approval now.”

4- The Light Between Oceans
I actually just started this one, but I can already tell that it will be a tear-jerker.
So far, I know that a lightkeeper’s wife has found a baby in a boat that came ashore. The father of the baby was dead and there is no mother to be seen, so they assume she died on the trip. The lightkeeper wants to take the baby to the mainland to be given to authorities, but his wife, unable to have her own baby, insists on raising the child on their island, as their own.

They raise the baby for two years and later they take their daughter to the mainland, only to discover that the mother is not actually dead, but alive and searching for her lost family.

So far, I really love it and can’t wait to hear the rest.

On that note, off to a local splash park, where the kids will run around in the water and play, while I watch them and “read” my book.
