So today I wanted to share an awesome project that my husband made for our kids.

So far I’ve showcased his DIY sand table and the the table where he was able to replace glass tabletop with tile.  Oh- and my favorite, the Bench Making – DIY mudroom bench.  I’m sure there are so many more, but those are a few of my favorites.

Last year I bought a slide on Craigslist for our kid’s bunk beds ($25).  (He made it so they could slide from the top to the floor- so fun!).  Well- they didn’t want it bunked anymore, as of a few months ago, so we had this extra slide just lying around.

Our house backs up to about 1/4 acre of woods.  It separates our house from our neighbors (friends) that live behind us.   Our neighbors have three kids and we have four, so it ends up being a great play area for them!   We have a small set of steps leading to our woods that my husband built last summer. They are always going up and down the stairs, so he thought why not use it there?  He decided to put the slide on the hill leading out of the woods (near the stairs). I didn’t even know that he was doing it, but when I went outside, there he was- building it!

It is really fun and the kids love it.  (They really like to race their little cars down it, but whatever makes them happy… right?!)

HOW TO BUILD IT:

  • Make a little platform with some scrap wood that you have.
  • Screw the slide to the level platform
  • Drive some posts (pieces of wood) in near the top of the slide (You will use this to make handles next)
  • Add a piece of wood from the post to the back of the platform to make a hand-rail. (you can see the diagonal hand rail on the picture above)

That’s it. The DIY slide in the hill was cheap & it is really fun!

  1. Hi ya, I’ve just bought a slide to do this in my garden. Can I ask did you need to dig the slide into the ground to secure it please? Many thanks Beckie
