If your child is potty-trained but suddenly having accidents, you are definitely not alone. Honestly, this is one of the most common potty-training situations parents ask me about. That’s why I partnered with Sposie to share a simple solution for this exact stage, something that gives kids extra backup while still letting them wear regular underwear.

If you’ve been around here for a while, you already know that potty training is one of my favorite parenting topics to talk about. I’ve potty trained four kids, written a best-selling potty-training book, and talked with thousands of parents over the years about what actually works in real life.

Potty training is rarely a straight line.

There are successes and regressions (and everything in between). They may be mostly potty trained, but suddenly having accidents. Your child may do great for days, or even weeks, and then suddenly you’re in the middle of the store and hear:

“I HAVE TO GO POTTY!”

You know what it means: they’ve waited as long as possible, and you now have about 30 seconds to get them to a bathroom before they have an accident.

It happens more often than we realize.

  • They fall asleep in the car when you weren’t planning on being out that long.
  • Your child sleeps in later than expected.
  • You’re out and can’t get to a potty right away.
  • Traffic happens, and you can’t get to a bathroom (or even pull over).
  • They “just went” five minutes ago, so you thought you were safe to be away from a bathroom for a little while.

This is just part of potty training. While the initial potty training can happen quickly, kids are still learning how to recognize their body’s signals and give themselves enough time to get to the bathroom. This is why a child can be mostly potty trained but suddenly having accidents again.

Honestly, I think one of the hardest parts about potty training is that parents feel like every accident means something is going wrong. Usually, it doesn’t. Usually, it just means they are learning. Parents may call this potty training regression, but it’s often just part of the learning process.

I remember trying all kinds of things during that “almost fully potty-trained” stage just to avoid accidents during long outings or road trips. For example, when we’d go on trips, I used to put a diaper over their underwear. It was our way to keep the car seat protected, while still letting them feel the wet underwear (unlike diapers). It was all part of the learning process, but it wasn’t convenient.

This is the stage that potty-training products have been missing for years: that in-between stage where kids are almost fully potty trained, but still need a little backup sometimes.

Sposie Cross Trainers are designed for exactly that stage. Kids still get to wear regular underwear and feel confident, but parents get a little extra protection for long outings, naps, nighttime, travel, or those moments when getting to a bathroom quickly just isn’t possible.

These are absorbent inserts that fit right inside your child’s regular underwear. Your child still gets to wear underwear and still feels independent and confident, but you get a little extra backup for those real-life moments where accidents are more likely to happen. Each absorbent Cross-Trainer pad gives kids a little extra backup during naps, nighttime, travel, or long outings while still letting them wear regular underwear.

Seriously… where was this when my kids were potty training?

Most parents end up feeling stuck between underwear and diapers.

You don’t want to go backward and put them back in a diaper, especially once they’re proud of wearing underwear. At the same time, there are situations where you know they might not make it.

Long car rides.
Naps.
Bedtime.
Road trips.
Busy errands.
Sleepovers.
Theme parks.
Flights.
That awkward “almost fully potty trained” stage is REAL.
When your child is potty trained but suddenly having accidents.

This helps fill that gap.

What I like most is that it doesn’t feel like you’re undoing progress. Your child still wears their normal underwear and still feels confident, which honestly matters so much during potty training.

Confidence is a huge part of it.

A lot of kids get discouraged after accidents. Parents do too.

Accidents are normal. Nighttime accidents are normal, too. I tell parents this all the time because daytime potty training and nighttime potty training are completely different things.

Some kids stay dry overnight early. Some don’t. Some kids do amazing at home, but struggle the second their routine changes. Some kids never have an accident, others are potty trained but suddenly having accidents. All of those things are normal.

Sometimes kids just need a little nighttime confidence while they’re figuring it all out.

Sposie Cross Trainers are just one of those practical parenting products that make life easier without making kids feel embarrassed or uncomfortable.

As a mom, I always appreciate simple solutions.

You just place the insert into the underwear before bed, before a long outing, or anytime you want a little extra backup. That’s it.

No huge routine.
No complicated system.|
No feeling like you’re starting over.

It gives parents a little backup without completely disrupting the routine their child has worked so hard to build.

Just a little extra help during one of the messiest parenting stages ever.

If you’re currently in the middle of potty training, hang in there. Seriously. It feels exhausting while you’re in it, but I promise you, potty training won’t last forever. 🙂
