I’ve tried it all ways… waking up an hour before the kids and going to the gym. Waking up when the kids come in to wake us up. Waking up after the kids wake up. The best one? Waking up just ten minutes before they get up. This is the sweet spot of time… the eye of the time-tornado. Today, I am working with Equal to share why this works for us.
When I set my alarm to get up just 10 minutes before the kids, it allows me to do these things before they come rushing in:
MY LATEST VIDEOS
1- Grab a cup of coffee, in my pajamas.
We have the timer set so that our coffee is ready when we wake up. We both go downstairs, grab our coffee in our favorite mugs (I use a mug with my favorite scripture on it and Mickey uses an insulated mug that Equal sent us. We flavor our coffee with one of our three favorite Equal Café Creamers: Caramel Macchiato, Mocha or French Vanilla (I like the French Vanilla and Mickey likes the other two). They are so good & only 10 calories per serving, so I’m happy about that. It’s also made with real cream and they are aspartame-free. As Equal reminds us: “Sweetness brings us Together” (a little coffee at the start of a day is a great little way to connect before we really start our day)
We may have one or two creamers… lol!! What can I say? I stocked up when I found a coupon that I could redeem during my Walmart grocery run.
2- We take our coffee back upstairs & get started in the morning routine.
We make our bed, open our shutters & get dressed/ready for the day. This is about the time that we look at the clock & have 1 minute to spare before the kids come in.
3- Now that I have had that 10 minutes, I can focus on getting the kids ready for school.
I make their beds while they get dressed, so this is done in about 1 minute per room.
4- They come into our room to get their hair fixed & teeth brushed & we all head downstairs to have breakfast.
5- Our school rule is NO TV until everyone is completely ready to go:
Teeth brushed, hair fixed, dressed, socks & shoes on, backpacks ready (with lunch boxes), dishes cleaned up. If all four kids have done this, they can turn the TV on. They usually get about 5 minutes of TV time before school. It’s not much, but just enough to motivate them to be quick. If it’s nice out, we swap out the TV time for outside playtime. They REALLY hurry for this one (they like to play basketball in the driveway with Mickey before school).
So, yes, 10 minutes prior to the kids has been found to be the best time to wake up. It is just enough time to wake up, grab my coffee & flavor it with Equal Café Creamers (Available at Walmart Super Centers where Equal Café Creamers has distribution) and head back upstairs to be ready before every gets up.
And if for some reason, we are all running late, I’ll stop & get a coffee somewhere, but I’ll just flavor it myself (usually in the parking lot of the place where I got the coffee). hahaha!! It’s ok – Equal Café Creamers are so tiny, so they just go in my purse so I can do this pretty easily. They are portable (travel-friendly).
The key to having a great morning, in our house, is to be ready a few minutes before the kids wake up, so I can give them my full attention and help them stay focused on getting themselves ready. I always want them to have a happy morning and if I am rushing around and yelling at them to “get ready!” it will ruin all attempts at them having a good day.
