Understanding Nighttime Wetting: What I Wish I Had Known: This post is sponsored by GoodNites.

A little girl lying in bed with a teddy bearDo you want to know the #1 thing that I wish I had known before having kids? I wish I had known that it’s OK for kids to still be managing nighttime wetting, even after they are completely potty trained. Understanding nighttime wetting is important for us, as parents, and for our kids. I wish I had known that all kids grow and develop at their own pace – and that’s totally normal! After having 4 little ones of my own, I’ve learned that each child really is so different and as a mom, it’s so important for me to cater to each of their unique needs, to help them grow and flourish throughout their life. I love being able to help them whenever I can, but when my son was waking up with wet sheets nearly three times per week, I didn’t know what to do. I thought something was wrong and I had no idea where to turn for support.

I didn’t realize that this is a completely normal part of development for children. I went to my child’s doctor to find out if this was common, if he had seen this before in children of my son’s age and if he could also offer solutions to help us get through the night… preferably dry. I found out that in most cases, there is no real cause of nighttime wetting –children will usually grow out of it with time. Hearing this definitely helped me to stress less about what my son was going through.

My doctor also recommended a product that is designed to provide children managing nighttime wetting with outstanding protection called GoodNites NightTime Underwear. They’re the #1 Nighttime Protection Brand* and are actually made specifically to help manage nighttime wetting. I didn’t even know that there was a product out there that could help me and my son rest easy all night long, but boy am I glad that we’ve found one! My son loves the fun designs that make him feel super comfortable and personally, I love that the L/XL size my son wears are 40% more absorbent**.

More recently too, we’ve started to use them for my younger daughter who occasionally still wets the bed too. My husband and I rest so much easier now knowing that my kids are wearing their GoodNites and will be comfortable, confident and most importantly, wake up dry in the morning. We keep them in my kids’ bedside tables or in their dresser.

We like to keep them close at hand, so they’re accessible and easy for the kids to grab on their own – allowing them to be really independent and in-charge of the situation.

So, if you’re managing nighttime wetting with your children, from someone who’s been through it with their own kids, just know that it’s OK and you will get through this. All children grow and develop at their own pace, so it’s okay if they’re not quite dry throughout the night yet. Encourage, love and support your kids by using your resources to help you, like GoodNites. If they make our kids feel better and make our mornings easier, I’m totally on-board! It’s just one less thing to stress about and I have more than enough to stress about as a parent…

We just have to relax and trust that my kids’ bodies will eventually do what they need to, but until then we’re going to be prepared and have GoodNites ready so we can wake up to GoodDays too 😉
