Do you feel like you are snacking all day long? I get it! Last week I shared tips on stopping the kids from snacking all day, but what about YOU? Today I’m partnering with Dole® to bring you my favorite tips to help stop the all-day-snacking.
When you are a mom of four kids, you typically have pretzels, crackers, or homemade cookies near you at all times! My problem is that while the kids aren’t necessarily running to the kitchen to grab these things, I walk past them 100 times a day, so I am the one taking handfuls all day long!
Reaching into a container of pretzels has become somewhat of a habit. A few pretzels here, a few pretzels there… all day long. I don’t even think about it sometimes – I just grab a bite while I’m walking past them & move on. (Not to mention that we have a LOT of chocolate bars & marshmallows in our house right now since the boys were supposed to go camping until the trip was put on hold thanks to the rain).
So… what can you do about the all-day-snacking when YOU are the one snacking?
1- FILL UP ON FRUITS AND VEGETABLES
Every single morning, we start our day with a smoothie! We often have them for lunch and snacks, too. There is something about a smoothie… they just keep us full longer and keep us more alert throughout the day!
I always keep fruit on hand – I have fresh & frozen fruit in the house. I usually chop the fruit up & store it in a container like the one below (I also added kale, spinach, and avocado). Then I’ll just grab it in the morning or when we want a snack and I’ll toss the contents into a blender with almond coconut milk and ice. I’ll blend it & we’re ready to go!
To make things even easier, I now rely on frozen smoothie mixes. We love the NEW Dole Boosted Blends™ Energize and Protein smoothies! You can add in your favorite beverage, so we use coconut-almond milk. They are delicious!
Each of these smoothies comes with added benefits, too. For example, thanks to the Dole Boosted Blends Protein Smoothie, I don’t have to add additional protein to get an energy boost.
Plus- I don’t need to prep or measure ingredients. Just toss them into the blender, add in a beverage & blend. Dole Boosted Blends is an easy hack to get more nutrients and fruit into your diet! They are both a source of Vitamin C. They are also gluten-free & made with Non-GMO ingredients.
My two favorites are the Dole Boosted Blends Energize and the Dole Boosted Blends Protein. I found them in the frozen food section at my Publix.
The Dole Boosted Blends Energize smoothie combines juicy mango, golden pineapple, and creamy banana blend perfectly. They also added in an energizing boost of matcha green tea to deliver a delicious, invigorating smoothie with added benefits that aren’t available by fruit alone.
The Dole Boosted Blends Protein, my other favorite, is so good. It combines sun-ripened blueberries and creamy banana blend without having to do the prep work! It even adds in a protein boost of whey and almond butter which packs in 10 grams of protein per serving (just be sure that you have about 15 cubes to get your 10g. Protein burst!). 🙂
No matter which way you go – you’re set!
2. GET ENOUGH PROTEIN & FIBER
I have also realized that many people do not get enough protein or fiber. The crazy thing is that these are the two things that keep us full. I can eat a stack of pancakes or I can have a smoothie, and I can almost guarantee that the smoothie will keep me full much longer than the pancakes. The reason? Fiber & protein that come from fruits and vegetables.
Again, smoothies are key here! They are full of fiber and protein! If you really want to kick it up a notch, you could try the New Dole Keto Berry Blend. It will save you from the exhaustion associated with going full Keto. These smoothies are Keto-certified and they only have 8g net carbs.
3. DRINK WATER
Did you know that thirst is often mistaken as hunger? According to the PKDfoundation, “most people confuse thirst and hunger, often mistaking the former for the latter. Clinical studies have shown that 37% of people mistake hunger for thirst because thirst signals can be weak.”
For this reason, it’s important to drink water. Keep a water bottle around during the day & drink it often. This goes along with tip #4.
ps- I often add a cup or two of water to our smoothies, too.
4. STOP BOREDOM SNACKING
It’s usually in the evenings when I’m sitting down to relax that I grab that snack! Instead, I’m trying to use this time to finish the water from my water bottle. I often make the kids & I smoothies in the evenings, too, for a little snack. They love them and so do I. Our kids typically ask for a smoothie at least once a day
5. MAKE A PLAN
It’s like the old saying goes… When you fail to plan, you plan to fail. Make a plan to fill your grocery cart (like I do when I shop at Publix) with food that is going to keep you energized so you can achieve your daily goals!
If you don’t have these foods on hand, you might fall back into those old habits & reach for that next sugary snack to eat. Keep fruits, vegetables, nuts, and energizing foods like Dole Boosted Blends around so you can snack on those things instead.
In the end, you just have to stick to what you know – nutrient-rich foods are better for you & they keep you full longer! 🙂
