So my friend called me yesterday to tell me about this – if you update to the new iOS 10 on the iphone, it can cause you crazy amounts of overages.  She sent me this message on facebook:

How to turn off wi-fi assist:

Go to Settings > Cellular. Then scroll down and tap Wi-Fi Assist to turn it off (it will start out green, but toggle it to gray)

You can also toggle your other apps to off to avoid them using background refresh, which is where they use your data to refresh even if you aren’t using that app.  I turned it off on our kid’s games.

  1. Wifi assist to definitely data hungry. I also noticed that my usage has gone high. Thank god, mine is unlimited plan.
