I’ve teamed up with HEALTHY ESSENTIALS® to talk about the secret to making the mornings run smoother.

3 Tips That Make School Mornings Run Smoother

In my opinion, routine is the key to any successful day!  Our kids know just what to expect from our day and it makes things so much easier!  I do not need to remind them to “come downstairs for breakfast” after they get dressed or to “get into bed” after our book at night.  These things are just natural.

Just as you would wake up, brush your teeth and get dressed, the kids have come to learn their routines and do the same thing: wake up, brush their teeth, use LISTERINE® SMART RINSE®, get dressed… They know what will be happening next. It makes life so much easier to be on a schedule, in my opinion, as long as you are OK to be flexible when you need to be! Being prepared makes things easier, too… like school mornings.

Here are three tips to make the school mornings run smoother:

1- Wake up 20 minutes before your kids.

It wasn’t easy, but I went from a night owl to an early bird and it has made all the difference for our morning routines.  I was able to have enough energy when the kids woke up that I could make their beds, help them get ready and get them out of the door without a moment’s pause.  This is so much better than dragging my feet for 30 minutes, trying to wake up, while they drag their feet doing the same.

2- Coffee, anyone?

I was not a coffee girl, but I’ve learned to love it.  I even put in this great creamer that I like and I use a disposable cup so I can take it from room to room.  It helps me to kick up my pace just a bit in the morning.  (hint: get it ready the night before, so you just have to hit “Brew” in the morning).

3- Smile!

The kids move quicker when I am happier.   I don’t know why, but it works.  If I am smiling and happy to see them, they are smiling and happy to get ready.  If I am nagging them and fussing at them, they are whining and sluggish.  One little trick that works well with our kids is that when they are completely ready to go, they can watch TV for 5 minutes.  (Save it for the end of the morning, when shoes & backpacks are on).  Everyone will rush to get ready then.  It is so important to start the day with a smile!

Yes, mornings can be the best part of the day, as you have the power to get your family off on the right foot, or it can be a stressful time of day. It boils down to one main thing: being prepared.

While you’re at it, I highly encourage you to do these 5 things at night, so your morning will be even better!
