Gifts do not have to be toys.  We have always gone to ‘toys’ as our go-to gift, but this year, we are giving our kids some things that will mean more to them.

This year, we are giving one of our sons music lessons (through Groupon) and an instrument.  He is going to be so excited!  My husband played the guitar in college and our son has wanted to learn ever since he heard that little piece of information.  haha!

Our son has wanted a guitar for at least two years now, but we never thought that he was responsible enough to take care of it, until now.  This year we bought him one.  We found the guitar on sale for 50% off, so we jumped on the chance.

I love this gift, because this isn’t something that he will play with once and throw it into the toy box.  He will get a lifetime of learning out of this.  He can carry what he will learn from his guitar over to other instruments and it will really make him a well-rounding person.

To make this gift even more special, we are giving it to him with guitar lessons.  I found a great deal on Groupon for guitar lessons that were 77% off, so we ordered them.  I am going to place a little gift certificate that I made for him next to his guitar and hide it under a blanket on Christmas morning…

To make the certificiate, I just picked his favorite color and found a great little clip-art guitar.  I inserted it onto the blank page and went in and just wrote a little note to him.

Here is the close-up of the printout that I made him:

An orange card with text on it.
I can’t wait to see the look on his face!  He is going to be thrilled and I can’t wait to hear the music that he learns!

This is a great little alternative to a toy this year.   Any lessons or experiences are really a great gift that will last a lifetime.

  1. The gift of music is something that can impact someone for the rest of their lives! They will always be grateful for giving them the opportunity to dive headfirst into something as special as music. Music is a gift that will not go un-thanked!

  2. Music and emotions are totally tied together – so it definitely makes sense to me that a favorite song would reflect personality! Falling for the First Time by BNL is one of my favorites and I feel like it totally describes me.
