There are 6 people in our house, so the amount of laundry that we do is… overwhelming at times, to say the least.

Here are my 5 favorite laundry tips:

1- Do a load every morning!

Every morning, at 7:00, my husband or I will wake up and start a load of laundry. If we don’t, we end up with this after a few days:

A collage of hanging and folded laundry.

2- Pick a detergent that works.

Our favorite is the ARM & HAMMER™ Clean Scentsations. It is powerful enough to clean everything and it has a vibrant freshness to it that we love. We have used ARM & HAMMER™ for as long as I can remember (it is timeless), so it was no surprise that I liked the Clean Scentsations. If you have kids that love adventure, you know why we love it. haha!! It can clean dirt out of just about anything! Ps- speaking of adventure, check out their guide filled with ideas and activities to help your family have their most memorable adventures yet.

3- Separate and then call in the troops!

We separate the clothes into baskets and then we have everyone take their basket to their room to put it away. The older boys help us fold their stuff and now even our 3 year old is helping to fold her clothes (she puts it away… and she loves that part!). In our house, each child gets their own basket. This makes laundry much easier!

4. Follow Through Start To Finish

One of the reasons I ended up with a pile of laundry was that we would wait too long and then do 5 or 6 loads of laundry in a row. No wonder none of it got put away. Or I would need to do all of these loads before I ever put any away, because why make 4 trips into Jack’s room when I can save it all up and just make one trip? This resulted in our bed being piled high with folded clothes and it would drive me crazy!

What’s been working for us is to only do as much as we can get done from start to finish in a day. I start one or two loads and make sure every single thing gets washed, dried and put away before starting more. “A load a day keeps the laundry at bay”

5- Remind your kids that not all clothes are dirty!

If they wore it for 5 minutes, it probably isn’t dirty and doesn’t need to be tossed in laundry basket. (This is why having them fold their own clothes is helpful- because they are either folding them now or later… but you aren’t doing it for them either time.)

I was excited to take part in this because I love Arm & Hammer Clean Scentsations. (We use it to already, so it was a no-brainer, plus my husband loves the National Parks inspired scents.)

  1. Excellent tips listed here. I am always looking for advice on how to make this whole (cleaning) process quicker, cheaper and more efficient. The pointer that stood out to me is: “Follow Through Start To Finish”. All too often I get distracted and never finish what I started. I believe following your advice here will help keep me from doing that in the future. Thank you for this beneficial resource!

  2. I will be practicing these tips with the kiddos this weekend. Thanks a ton for sharing with us.
