Fun way to give a gift certificate

Every year, we resort to giving ‘items’ – things that will eventually go into that toy-box or closet. One of the best toys that we can give is the gift of an experience. I love this, because unlike a gift that just lays around or becomes unused within a week or two, an experience will last a lifetime, in a memory. Plus, spending time with the ones that you love is what makes life worth living.

This year, I surprised our family (early) with a mini trip to Hilton Head over our break. We love Hilton Head Island- my grandparents lived there for over twenty years and this is where we have been vacationing since I was a little girl. Our children continue this experience with me (my husband does, as well). The gift of time is the best gift that you can give someone. With Groupon, it was a no-brainer.

So, to pull this off, I first searched on Groupon for the place that we wanted to go: Hilton Head Island.

I found this one and jumped on the opportunity!

Next, I had to think of a FUN way to give it to them. I like the thought of the kids opening a gift, so I decided to put the certificate into something. Putting it into something just lets them know that I thought more about the gift (that it wasn’t a last-minute plan).

Well, I had a fun idea! I had recently recieved a Silhouette machine (the machine to make vinyl things), so I decided to try it out. I went online and ordered each of our kids a travel cup in the colors that they love. I then made a little round cut-out with each of their names on it. I put a rolled up (home- made) certificate in each one and had them waiting on the table when came down for dinner.
