Every year, my family gets together for the holidays.   There ends up being about 25 of us (extended family) and we love to find time to spend together.  The most important thing about gathering with family is connecting, so today I have teamed up with Sister Schubert’s® to give you some ideas on connecting with your family.   In order to connect with one another, you have to first disconnect from the outside world (via electronics).

Here are a few ideas of some fun activities to do with your extended family… instead of electronics.

1- First off, when they come in, they unplug from electronics (and plug in to the basket).  Have them put their phones in a designated area. We plug them into Sister Schubert’s® Basket of Warmth.  The Basket of Warmth keeps our freshly baked Sister Schubert’s rolls warm throughout dinner. But there’s one catch. The basket only works if everyone’s phones are plugged into it. It not only keeps the rolls warm throughout dinner, but it also charges the phones, while keeping them out of the way during family dinnertime.

2- Play a game like Pictionary.  This is a great game to play in a large group and with people of all ages.  Break up into teams (kids vs adults) and have a great time.

3- Have a great meal.  Serve your favorite foods and don’t forget the Sister Schubert’s rolls – they make dinners feel warmer. They’re a delicious combination of quality and convenience.  These Yeast Rolls have a homemade taste and a buttery scent in about 5-10 minutes.

4- Disconnect from distractions to reconnect with those who matter most – your family.   Keep the phones and iPods down while you play or eat.

5-  Play the “build a table” game.
Grab a few stacks of newspaper and a roll of duct tape.   Break up into two teams.  Each team has to use the newspaper & tape to build a table that is 1 foot high and can hold a book (use the same book for both teams to judge the tables).  You get 15 minutes to build it.  The strongest table wins.

6- Play telephone
Break up into groups of 8.  Stand in a line.   Person number one whispers a secret to person number 2. (“I like to eat ice cream before I go to bed.”) Person number 2 whispers it to #3.  #3 whispers to #4, etc…  See if that same sentence makes it to the end or if it changes.

7- Just talk and enjoy one another’s company

It doesn’t matter what you do or play.  Find a game or just sit and talk.  The important part is that you are spending time with family.

Hi there!
