Thanks to Harris Teeter to partnering with us for this recipe that I was able to create for less by using Harris Teeter private label brand items.
Last week we had our family over for dinner, so I wanted to make something that was easy but didn’t taste like it was easy. 🙂 I decided to make these easy, yummy french dip sandwiches because all of our kids love them and they don’t take much time or effort.
I ran to Harris Teeter to grab my groceries (It’s my go-to store because it’s close, always clean, they have their own private-label items that we like… and they have the dinosaur and cookies, so the kids like it! hahaha!)
I grabbed what I needed and then headed home to make this oh-so-yummy recipe!
- Roast Beef from Harris Teeter’s Deli (I buy 2 pounds- we are a family of six)
- Hoagie Rolls
- Beef Broth
- Garlic (I buy the kind in the jar that’s already minced)
- Worcestershire sauce
- Melt 2 Tablespoons of butter over low-medium heat
- Cut up an entire yellow onion into slices
- Add Garlic (about 2 teaspoons of the minced garlic from the jar)
- Add onion to the skillet
- Cook until onions are transparent (or at least close)
- Remove onions from skillet (I don’t wash the skillet yet because you will be adding more butter anyway and the taste of the onions/garlic makes the next part work better)
- Add another Tablespoon of butter and melt
- Add 2 Tablespoons flour and stir (it will make a paste in the skillet)
- Add 2 cans of beef broth
- Add 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- Cook for 10 minutes, stirring every minute or so (I use a whisk)
- Add roast beef (separate each slice & add it – I add about 1 pound at a time) and cook for 5 minutes (you might need to flip some so you cook both sides)
While it’s cooking, you can get your bread ready. I just butter it and cook it at 350 for about 6 minutes, until it’s toasted.
Cut provolone cheese in half and lay it on one side of the bread and melt for about 1 minute in the oven (I buy this “very thin” cheese from Harris Teeter. Their private-label brand products are as good as, or even better than the leading brand and the ‘very thin’ cheese melts quicker and the kids like it better.)
When the meat is heated, add a few slices to each bun.
Top with onions and a little pepper.
