This week, Allie came in from playing outside, walked into the kitchen and said: “Let’s make a cake!” She was full of excitement as she dragged her chair over to the countertop.
I just mentioned “Dump Cake” and her brother, Jack, was in the kitchen in 10 seconds flat. It’s his favorite. So… we made it and I wanted to share the recipe with you. I’ve teamed up with Bounty for this sponsored post.
Before I move onto the recipe, I want to encourage you to never let a mess scare you away from creating a fun memory and recipe. Our kids love to bake, they love to create and they love to get messy. I love it, too. Messes = fun, creativity, using their minds and their hands to make something.
What you need:
1). A box of cake mix (I like to get yellow cake mix for this recipe)
2). 2 cans of pie/fruit filling (I prefer cherry and blueberry. You can add fresh fruit, too. My friend Kristy likes to use peach pie filling)
3). 1 stick butter (Use regular, unsalted butter. I tried to use light butter once and it wasn’t the same. If you only have ½ stick, that will work, but the full stick works better.)
4). Bounty Paper towels (Bounty is a more absorbent paper towel, which means the roll lasts longer and you don’t need to use as much to tackle the spills, splats and messy fingerprints that come with baking.)
Dump Cake is the type of cake that you walk by it in the kitchen, take one bite, thinking that is all that you will have… until that bite is gone and you find yourself going back for one more… and one more… until you look and see that you have eaten WAY too much, so you call the kids down to eat some just to make it go away!)
Directions:
1- Grab a baking dish
2- Combine fruit in the dish
3- Pour Cake Mix right out of the box/bag onto the fruit filling to cover it. Spread it until it covers the fruit.
4- Slice butter and lay it over the cake mix. (You could even melt the butter & pour it over the cake)
(Use a Bounty Paper Towel to clean the fruit & cake mix off the side of the dish, so it doesn’t bake on).
5- Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes (until it is a golden brown)
6- Use your Bounty Paper Towels to clean up your mess… trust me, you’ll have one!
7- Garnish with fresh blueberries. 🙂
Let it cool & enjoy it.
Repeat tomorrow. 😉
This recipe is my go-to when I need a dessert or any sort of casserole. I have made this for my MOPS group (Mothers of Preschoolers) and I make this when we have friends over for dinner. It is great served warm or cold. It is great as is, or a-la-mode. This is my favorite recipe and our family favorite treat. 🙂
Warning… if you let your kids have a bite… they will want MORE. 🙂
