5 tips to make being a work at home mom easier
I am a mom to four kids, ages 7 and under.
I am a play therapist.
I am a blogger with two blogs:  this one and my ‘blogging’ blog- Blogging on the Side.
I stay home with our kids… six days a week (I work one morning every week as a play therapist).

Being a work at home mom can be tough.  TRUST ME!   It can be hard to balance family and work time.   It can be hard to go to sleep at night when you have so much left to do (making it hard to wake up in the morning!)  You feel like you are always at work, when you work from home.

With that being said, I want to give you 5 ideas to make things easier.  These are things that I do now and I couldn’t really work from home without them!

1- Using e-meals slow cooker recipes

It might not sound like much, but it is a huge help!  Emeals sends you a weekly grocery list & recipe cards.  They do the meal planning for you.  I recently switched my meal plan from PALEO (yep, I tried that one for a while…) to LOW CALORIE (my favorite so far) to my current one SLOW COOKER MEALS.
Oh how I love slow cooker meals!!  They make my life so much easier.  I just throw everything into the crock pot while the kids are eating breakfast and put I it on low.   If I forget to do it in the morning, I can just do this at lunchtime and put it on high.  Either way, our dinner is ready when my husband gets home from work.

2- Keeping the house clean.

This may sound counterproductive, but I can not get anything done if I am surrounded by a mess.   I am so blessed that my mom still helps me out so much when she comes over to watch our kids while I work as a play therapist (one morning a week).
When I come home, it is like I am living at my childhood house again- the house looks beautiful!   However, on the days when my mom (AKA: Mary Poppins) doesn’t stop by, I try to keep everything cleaned because otherwise I just can’t focus on what needs to be done.  I follow my own advice given in my decluttering series & my organizing tips.   I also couldn’t keep it clean without my most-favorite-ever robot vacuum.  I set it to clean the house every day at 9:00.   It is AMAZING, to say the least!

3- Keep your kiddos busy & happy.

I have a lot of activities on my blog, but I try to do one of these activities to keep them busy playing by themselves when I have work to do.  They are usually in the same room as me, but they are playing quietly and keeping themselves busy.  Plus, these activities only take a minute to set up.   PS- a GREAT stress reliever is to sit & play with your kids when you feel your busiest.   Stop & give them a tight hug!

4- Everyone helps.

Everyone helps with chores!   You can see my DAILY CLEANING LIST or my age-appropricate chores here.   It is important that everyone pitches in.   For example, we do “family clean up” after dinner every night.   No one can do anything until everything is cleaned and put away.  It is just one way to keep things running smoothly in our house.   As I tell our kids “Many hands makes light work”.
Our kids do chores~ This is a GREAT way to teach your kids responsibility & raise them to be responsible adults.
5- Buy online.

I didn’t used to be online shopper, but now I find that is it definitely a time-saver!  Plus, I am saving money  (did I mention how much time it saves me?).
You can buy diapers online- it is easy and you save more money than in the store.  Plus, Huggies is giving Your Modern Family readers access to a very exclusive promotion that takes $12 off of a pack of Huggies Diapers when you use the code WOWHUGGIES at checkout.

What about you?  What are your tips?  Share them below and other readers will get a chance to see how you are able to make it work in your house.
Thanks!

  1. I agree, buying online is something that saves me so much time and money. No hauling the kids to 5 different stores to find the best prices, just shopping online, easy peasy. I wrote an article of 37 reasons to shop online. I hope you’ll check it out. 🙂
