I wanted to tell you about using essential oils for the first time because I’m not going to lie… I was pretty skeptical of using essential oils.  They reminded me of the 70’s (no offense to the 7o’s).   When I heard of people using oils to treat illnesses, I thought that they were… just really gullible.    I was wrong. I’m not what you’d call the “crunchy mama” type.   I’m more of “Give the kids natural things & don’t use TOO many chemicals but still clean your shower with bleach” type of mom.

Using Essential Oils for the First Time

So, when my friend, Holly, told me to try it for my back, which had gone out yet again, I was skeptical.   She said that one time she was trying to put Deep Relief oil on her shoulder when it was sore and accidentally spilled the entire bottle on her… she felt a million times better.  It was a mistake, but a good one.

“Well”, I thought “What is the worst that could happen?  I just smell like I’m in my old college dorm with incense burning and my old tie-dye tapestry on my wall, wearing my floor length tie-dye dress that I bought at Penn State when I was visiting my brother one semester” (yes, I had a little ‘hippie’ in me, too.)

So, I ordered a starter kit from Young Living (because they offer the seed to seal promise).  Young Living has put together a Premium Starter Kit (PSK) that includes ten bottles of essential oils, the ones that we would use often, a diffuser and then one bonus bottle.   They also send along a few samples of products (like Ningxia Red) and other sample oils.

Then it arrived…

A variety of Young Living products.
My kit Included: A Diffuser, Premium Essential Oils Collection- Lavender, Copaiba Vitality™, Peppermint Vitality™, Lemon Vitality™, Frankincense, Thieves® Vitality™, Purification®, RC™, DiGize™ Vitality™, PanAway®, Stress Away™ 5-ml, AromaGlide™ Roller Fitment, 10 Sample Packets, 10 Sample Business Cards, 10 Sample Oil Bottles, 2 NingXia Red® 2-oz., Product Guide and Product Price List, Essential Oil Magazine, Essential Edge, Member Resources

I know it’s hard to tell from the picture, but it comes with these little roller balls and empty jars so you can make your own oil combinations, too.

Anyway- I ended up trying a few of the oils… and then I ordered more (including the Deep Relief).   You see where this is going, right?

Yep.  I was hooked.  The deep relief worked wonders.

So, I ordered a diffuser from everyone’s room.   You can get them through Young Living or even on Amazon. (I’ll buy a diffuser there, but not the oils.  I like knowing where the oils come from… seed to seal.)

The lavender helped Beau, our 8-year-old, fall asleep quicker (which is huge because he has trouble falling asleep)   The peppermint helped Allie’s congestion.  (Jack wanted it in his room, too, because he said it reminded him of candy canes! hahaha!)  The peace & calming, diffused in Ethan’s room, helped him to calm down at bedtime.

So, here I am, about two years later, signed up as a distributor on auto-ship.  (this means that every month, I have oils sent to me, at a discount, through Young Living).   I order their cleaning products, their laundry detergent, dish detergent, oils and chapstick (I order chapstick for all of the kid’s teachers, too, for gifts.  They are so good!).

No, I’m still not a 100% all-natural type of person, but I am learning that natural things DO work and they are worth a try.   I had heard all of these amazing stories before & just didn’t believe them, but now I do.   They actually work. 🙂

If you ever decide you want to give them a try, you can order a starter kit here.

Or you can learn more before you decide if you want to join here.

Directions:
It’s pretty easy to follow.  You click the link, you’ll enter your country, then it will say that Rebecca Mansfield DBA Your Modern Family (that’s me) has invited you.   You’ll say continue.  Then you’ll pick your package (you choose your diffuser).    You can customize your Essential Rewards kit, so next month you get something different (I suggest the thieves cleaner, deep-relief oil and sniffle-ease oils for kids.  I even get our kid’s vitamins from them now.)   Then confirm that you want the auto-ship for next month (you can cancel it at any time).
Go from there. 🙂

Ps- I thought that this was helpful when I was using essential oils for the first time and first learning about what oils can do for you:

s- if you are ever interested in selling, email me at yourmodernfamily@gmail.com  – I have friends that sell oils so that they can get their oils for free.  🙂  It’s a win-win.   What I like about being a distributor is that I’m not asking people to buy oils.  They come to me when they want something and I just help them get it – I don’t chase them down or ask them to buy… I’m just the middle man for them. 🙂
