The Perfect Mother’s Day (or is it?)

In the past few weeks, I’ve had a chance to really stop and look at my life.  We had spring break and then the end of the school year.  These things have given me a chance to slow down… to really slow down and just think. Today, I am partnering with Bounty to share it with you.

When my life slows down, it gives me a chance to think & reflect.  I remembered my grandma a lot during this time.  She was one that was not afraid to show her love for you.  

She clapped her hands in excitement when she saw you.   
She grabbed you and hugged you, even if you were fresh out of bed when visiting her.
She asked you to wait to clean up your dishes because she wanted to walk to the beach.
She would sit and play cards with you just because she wanted a chance to talk.
She cried at church, during every song, because I think she reflected on her life and it’s joy like I do.

She’s gone now… and it makes me realize that what we have is not going to stay around forever.   

This Mother’s Day is like all of the others to me… it isn’t about the gifts or what fancy thing we do.  Mickey knows that I do not want jewelry or dinner out.  He knows that I wouldn’t be excited for a bouquet of flowers or a night on the town.   

What I want for Mother’s Day is to enjoy BEING A MOTHER.   I want my kids around me.  I want to look at the simple things, like a day outside or a day crafting or baking and be grateful that I am able to do these things.

I want to look at my four amazing children and know that I am lucky enough to get to be their mother.  I am lucky enough to have touched each of their lives and have their love in return.  I am lucky enough to become their friend, the way my parents are mine.  I am lucky enough…

So for Mother’s Day, I don’t want the kids to sneak around and make things… I like to be right there with them, watching them create it!  I love to hear what they are thinking when they make it… why they picked the colors they picked or why they made what they made.  I like to be in the moment with them.

Yesterday, Allie told me that she wanted to make me a flower garden because that’s what Ethan made me a few years ago.  So, I grabbed a canvas (I actually keep them with paints in my craft cabinet because they love to paint) and we started creating.   


The picture turned out as beautiful as the girl that made it!


Yes, she made a mess… a big one.  That’s half the fun.  You have to know by know that I rely on Bounty Paper Towels for all of our messes in life, because what is the point of always staying clean?  Bounty is a more absorbent paper towel, which means the roll lasts longer and I don’t need to use as much to tackle the messes that come with crafting or cooking on Mother’s Day.  That’s a good thing, because when you have four kids… you have a LOT of messes!

I literally buy Bounty Paper Towels in bulk and just keep them around the house.   Then when things like this happen… I’m prepared. 🙂   



Crafting and cooking a special treat with the kids for Mother’s Day is bound to get a little messy. Welcome the mess!  Then clean it up with the Quicker Picker Upper and move on to what really matters…  Remembering these moments.
