When Jack was born, in 2006, everything was great. A year later, he had been diagnosed with pneumonia three times and the doctor put him on a lung steroid, which he said was normal for babies born premature, just like Jack.  Today, I am working with ScriptSave® WellRx to bring you my favorite tips to save money on medication.

Luckily, it didn’t last long and he was better (never to get it again) by the time that he was one, but when we were in the middle of it, it was stressful and very expensive… knowing your little baby isn’t feeling well is a hard thing for a mom’s heart.

I think that every year, we deal with something. We dealt with pneumonia, one year it was the flu, last year it was strep throat. Everyone in our family had it (it spreads like wildfire) and it wasn’t long until we were all on antibiotics. Well, our kids were the first to be diagnosed, so our Pediatrician prescribed the kids some antibiotics. stuffy-nose
I had it ordered to a pharmacy close to our house. I picked it up and paid the co-pay. Soon, I learned that I had done two things wrong:

1- If I had ordered it to another store, it would have been free. Certain stores offer these very common antibiotics for free. (Now I always check before I order it).

2- If I had used ScriptSave® WellRx, it would have cost less. It is a card (free to use it) and the pharmacist can price the medicine first and then show you what you’ll save with ScriptSave® WellRx. You then pick which is cheaper and go with that option. It works well for people with high out of pocket costs. You can call with any questions (they have support for patients & pharmacists).

If you do order your medication and go with ScriptSave® WellRx, you can save up to 80% (on average, you’ll save about 44%). With both options (using ScriptSave® WellRx and checking where to get your medicine), you will be saving money.

Another tip: If you find that the drug offers no discount, check another store. It may come back with a better discount when it is time to be refilled (certain medications may offer discounts at certain times).

All in all, my tip is to do your research, look around, use the card and compare your options.

Ps- I thought this was interesting, too:  (Just FYI)
