So I recently had lunch with a life-long girlfriend of mine.  We don’t have the opportunity to see each other all that much so we make it a point to have lunch or dinner a couple times a year.  She had recently had her first baby so we were catching up on all stuff “mom”.   We had a great conversation, which made me think of what I wanted to share today in this sponsored post by Sam’s Club.

As it happens with many friends, our conversation took itself to how she was feeling …and looking.   She was so happy but feeling frustrated and overwhelmed about trying to lose her baby weight.  Have any of you ever been there?  So I mentioned to her that I like to make a vision board when working toward a goal.  I often suggest that people make a vision board for health.

We used to make Vision Boards in my classroom (for their grades, what books they wanted to read, etc…).   I also had clients make them when I began working at a gym (I taught kickboxing & step class years ago).  Everyone has told me how much they have helped, so I wanted to share it with you.

Take a personal challenge for the New Year and turn it into a goal.   You can head to a store, like Sam’s Club (they have just about everything, don’t they?!) and get what you need to work towards the #BetterYou for 2016.   A few ideas for things to get at Sam’s Club for a better you: (these are the things that I suggest) Men’s and Women’s Centrum Silver, (my favorite)EAS AdvantEdge Carb Control Read-to-Drink Shake, Chocolate Fudge (18 shakes), Fitbit Charge HRd, HealthRider H82E Elliptical or a ProForm Pro 2000 Treadmill ( available exclusively online).  All of these will make it easy to achieve your goals.

Next, start making your vision board with your goal in mind and pictures of the new things that you have purchased.

Here is the example that I gave to her:

What is a vision board?
A vision board (a.k.a dream board) is a collage of images, pictures, and written affirmations of the intentions and goals you wish to achieve all put together on a poster board or even electronically made into a single image.

I like the vision board concept even more than setting resolutions because you use words and images that give you something visual to focus on.  To me resolutions can be temporary, rigid, breakable, and even discourage creativity.  A vision board gives a picture of intensions which are more permanent, bendable, and invite a dialect with yourself.

A vision board can focus on anything and activates the law of attraction within us.  For my friend the focus was being healthier and getting in shape.  A vision board is an excellent way to help keep you on track to reaching your goals.

What is the law of attraction?
The law of attraction is simple ~ whatever you put your energy towards you attract.  Basically what you project is what you receive.  The vision board is simply a way to help set your intentions for the way you want to live, and then helps your brain recognize what you want to make true in your life.

How to make a vision board:

Supplies:

  • A large variety of magazines and/or images or words from the internet (print about pictures of your Sam’s Club purchases to remind you of your goals)
  • Poster board or foam board
  • Scissors
  • Glue stick or tape

1. Think.  Take any quiet moment you can get and think about what you’d like to successfully achieve in the New Year.  Try and choose about two or three goals.  That will help keep you focused and not get overwhelmed.  Bedtime is always to nice quiet place to reflect.

2. Gather. After you have a clear vision of your goals, gather your supplies and lay everything out on the floor or table.

3. Listen.  Go through the magazines and cut out photos, words, phrases that really speak to you and your goals.  Download pictures from the internet that symbolize your goals.  Get creative and think outside the box.  Be sure to include your favorite quotes an motivational phrases.

4. Get gluing!  Once you have selected your images and words lay them out on the board – but don’t glue then down yet.  Don’t forget to include pictures of yourself.  If weight-loss is your goal, try including pictures of yourself from when you were at your ideal comfortable weight.  Once you have everything laid out – get gluing!

5. Look at it daily.  Hang your vision board in a place where you can see it often.  Even put it in a place where family members and friends can see it.  Support is a key to making a positive life style change and maintaining it.   You don’t need to stare at your vision board all day, but at least glance at it a couple of times a day so that your goals are always on your mind!

What will your vision board look like? I hope you share:)
