If you ask our kids where they like to go Trick or Treating, they will always say “Disney!”   We try to go every October. We love to look at the amazing fall decorations, take advantage of the short lines during Mickey’s Halloween party, and enjoy the Food and Wine Festival.  Of course, Allie and her cousin, Lia, still love to try to seek out their favorite characters while we are there, too.

This year, Krusteaz invited us to attend the Junior Chef Kitchen presented by Krusteaz® during the Epcot Food and Wine Festival.  Under the guidance of a Disney Chef, our little “Junior Chefs” made, decorated and sampled their own pancake creations using fun recipes.  Our kids, along with the other participants also received their very own chef hat, apron, and a certificate of completion. I’ve partnered with Krusteaz to share our experience here.  We had so much fun!

As soon as we arrived at the Festival Center, where Junior Chef Kitchen was being held, our kids saw the room set up and they were immediately excited.

They knew that Krusteaz made great pancakes because we have them at home, but now they were going to get to make these pancakes at Disney… and Chef Mickey would be cooking them!  While we waited in line to get into the room, with other excited participants, we talked about our favorite pancakes: chocolate chip, blueberry, etc…   When we went to our table, the kids saw all of the toppings waiting for them:

A variety of cups with ingredients on a blue and white checkered table cloth.

Once the kids poured water into their Pancake mix and stirred it with their whisk, their pancakes were then taken away and cooked by Chef Mickey.   While they were being cooked, we learned a lot of interesting facts about pancakes (you can see them here on my Facebook page).   We also learned a few pancake tips from the head-chef, like the tip that she gave about letting your griddle prehead for ten minutes before you cook your pancakes.  Interesting!

Soon, the smell of pancakes filled the room and the kids’ pancakes were returned to them: cooked & ready to be topped, decorated and eaten!

The had a blast decorating the pancakes and making designs out of the toppings.

They each made their own creations…

The pancakes were then taken up to the front of the room and were shared with the group (they loved this!):

Each of our kids left with their goodie bag filled with everything they’d need to be a Chef at home (they proudly carried their certificate of a job well done!)

Overall, the trip was AMAZING!   Good times eating good food with my favorite people… in their favorite place!

  2. What an amazing experience for your kids. I think it’s great to encourage kids to cook and I’m sure this event really made them excited to get into the kitchen.
