Mickey and I have lived in three houses since we were married in 2004. Each house has been so different, but we’ve loved each for different reasons. So, when Clayton reached out to me about working with them for today’s post, I was happy to do so. It opened my eyes to the many different varieties of homes and how a manufactured home gives you all of the bells & whistles of a custom-built home, but without the price tag of a house built on site.
It was something that I wanted to share because I believe that everyone should be able to find an affordable, beautiful home for their family. I don’t understand the myths that go along with manufactured homes. They are built indoors instead of outdoors. To me, it’s a better scenario. Manufactured homes, like Clayton Built® homes, are constructed indoors to avoid water damage and weather delays while creating long-term value through the use of economies of scale.

Every home undergoes comprehensive internal inspections to ensure quality. Plus you save money because building materials and name brand appliances are purchased in bulk and distributed to the network of building facilities nationwide, so it saves the customers money. The company also saves the customer money on energy cost, as they now offer ENERGY STAR® certified homes, featuring energy efficient windows as well as heating and cooling equipment. Through talking with them to gather information to share with you, we learned about the open layouts of Clayton Built® homes, with the natural light that I love and the modern architectural details that are showcased in these homes. The floorplans are customizable, too. Today’s manufactured homes are built to highly-regulated building standards using quality, durable, brand-name materials.
I think that so many people fell into believing the myth that a home has to be a certain way, while there are so many ways to have an affordable, smart, stylish home.
Look at these gorgeous Clayton homes in the pictures below. They are filled with style like big walk-in closets and beautiful bathrooms (with soaking bathtubs).
Can you believe these kitchens?!: These kitchens are all in manufactured homes and have been customized. Plus, they are so much more affordable. Aren’t they beautiful!?
The bottom line is that Homeownership should be obtainable for everyone, but today it isn’t. I work with many families, as a therapist, that cannot afford a home. There is an affordable housing crisis in America, and it continues to worsen. Year over year the average price of new home increases. Currently, the average sales price of a new site-built home with land is approaching $370,000. This makes homeownership unattainable for many deserving families. It’s hard for me to see a hard-working family, with children, struggling to find a house that they can afford. The average price of a manufactured home without land, as of 2017 according to the U.S. Census Bureau, is $71,800. At Clayton, they believe everyone should get the chance to Have it made®, and that is what this initiative is all about – buyers don’t have to sacrifice beautiful design or quality for an affordable home. That’s why I am proud to work with them today, to share this information with you.
