Our mornings are busy!  At 7:00, everyone wakes up and starts to get ready.  By 8:10, I have to have our 6 year old and 5 year old ready to go to school.  On the days I have to be somewhere, I have to have everyone ready by this time. (myself plus four kids- one of them being a baby).

I like to eat breakfast, if I have time.  This is rare anymore!  By the time that I eat, it is 10:00 or later.  This is normal for my husband, but I have always been a breakfast eater, so this is not the norm for me… well, it wasn’t before I had kids.  I know how important it is, but, as my friend, Kristy, put it yesterday “As Moms, we take care of ourselves last.”   How true!

If we have granola bars here, I’ll grab one of those.  The downside?  Dr. Oz has said that they are just glorified candy bars!  I believe it because I like the ones that are not the healthiest option (chocolate covered chocolate chip!).

My quick solution for myself & for our son (we have one son that really isn’t a morning eater, so he would rather have a smoothie):  Make one of these smoothies in the morning. I use my magic bullet and it is ready in under two minutes- that includes the prep time!
healthy meal on the go

INGREDIENTS:
1 scoop of peanut butter (Use the all-natural kind for a healthier option.  We actually prefer this in our house for the taste.).  I just use a regular spoon and scoop some out.
2-  Skim Milk.  I fill up the magic bullet to about the half-way mark.  This is about 1 cup of milk
3- One banana (break it into thirds to make it fit)
4- Oatmeal.  Either use one package of original uncooked oatmeal or about 1/4 cup of uncooked Rolled Oats.
5- About 1/4 cup of crushed ice.

Sometimes I even throw in a tablespoon of wheatgerm or flax seed.  (or both)

Mix until well blended in your blender or magic bullet.   I just take the cup off of the motor, throw in a straw and go.

BONUS: The kids like this, too!  Its a very healthy choice!   I make it for myself for lunch a few days a week, too.

Enjoy!

  1. As a work-from-home editor, I try to eat a light supper—because of time and “sitting around” too much! I tried this Tuesday night and LOVED it! (I didn’t have a banana, so I threw in a peach—oddly, quite good!) I’m going to have one for lunch today (with a banana this time), and wanted to say thanks for sharing this! I’ll be back for more helpful tips and information now that I know about this blog!

    1. Isn’t it good? I love it, too. I will have to try the peach- I always have them here & they go bad quicker than we can eat them. Good to have this as a back-up plan!

  2. Thanks. That sounds really good. I’ve noticed a lot of recipes I come across are gluten free.

  3. I am so bad at getting a breakfast in for myself. This sounds so tasty and healthy! I just got a new blender too.
    perfect!

  4. I just made this for the firs time. It’s great! Fresh! I double the recipe and added a tiny bit of honey for sweetness.

      1. Tysm, for the recipes , I am really excited to try the peanut butter smoothie 🙂
