I love sharing cleaning hacks with you because they are simple, quick ways to get things done. Lately, I feel like I am doing them more & more. A little cleaning tip will save me so much time, which I need, so I can spend time with my family.
Here are 5 tips to keep your home clean:
1- Use a dryer sheet to clean baseboards.
I think that the kids are just constantly leaving little messes around the house. Running through with their friends, laughing and having a great time. Music to my ears and eyes… until the dust settles, that is (literally! It settles on the baseboards!)
I heard this little hack from a friend and it works so well. I went around our whole living room and entryway with a dryer sheet and cleaned it. It just sticks to the dryer sheet.
2- Use Spot Shot to clean up spots.
I can’t even begin to tell you how much I love Spot Shot. I have been using it for over ten years and it hasn’t let me down yet. I use it almost daily. Between the kids spilling food on the floors or wearing muddy shoes into the house, it is a must-have with carpet and furniture. I use it constantly in the house & in the car. We keep a bottle upstairs & one downstairs, to get the stains as soon as I see them!
3- Use an old pillowcase to clean the fan blades.
Each of our kids have a fan in their room and I know how they get so messy in their bedrooms, but I think that it has something to do with our kids cutting cardboard to make robots, or cutting yarn to make traps. All of those little ‘fibers’ float up & just stay there… on the fan blades, that is.
You can clean them while they are dry or wet (with a spritz of water before you begin). While standing on your bed or a stepladder, slip the pillowcase over each blade. Pull it back to trap all of the dust inside of the pillow case. When you are done, wipe the bottom of the blade with the back of the pillow case. Keep using it until you have finished the entire fan.
4- Use kitchen tongs to clean blinds or shutters.
Grab a pair of kitchen tongs and two cleaning clothes. Roll the cloth around the tong and secure it with a rubber band. Close it around the blind and run it side-to-side. Continue over the entire window.
5- Use Vinegar & Baking Soda to clean a crock pot.
Add water (to the top of the ‘messy area’). Add 1 Cup Vinegar and stir.
Slowly add 1 cup baking soda (slowly- if you add it too quickly, it will bubble out & make a mess).
Add 1 Tablespoon of dish soap.
Let it soak (with lid) for 5 hours, then rinse and wipe it out.
Very helpful. Never really thought about most of the hacks mentioned here. The one i love the most is using old pillow case to clean the fan blade. Doing both sides simultaneously.
Thanks for sharing.
The fan blade one was genius. Thanks
Any secrets for cleaning a glass top stove. The spray cleaners do not work very well!!
Yes! Use dawn liquid soap (with a strong washcloth) to get the grease off, a razor blade to scrape food off and if that doesn’t work, use a heavy degreaser.
