I’m sure you  have seen these, as I have, too, but I have finally decided to make one!  My two good friends, Jen and Holly, have these at their houses and I thought they were so beautiful!  My friend Jen made one for a teacher’s gift, too.  How smart- it is a book, so perfect for a teacher (she and I both teach or have taught).

Here is how you will make one.

First- find an old book that you are OK to rip apart.  I bought an old book at our local Habitat for Humanity store.  I love those stores!  You are helping someone and you are getting a good deal- perfect on all sides.

What you need:
Old book
Cardboard box
Staples
Glue gun
You will want to make a “ring” from this box.  (Just use a paper plate to trace for the inside hole).
A brown paper plate with the center cut out.

Once you find an old book, you can start rolling them.  The older, the better, because they have an “aged look”.  Just rip out the pages and roll each page.
You will staple them “shut” at the bottom.

A close up of a piece of paper with text on it rolled up.

Reminder: you will want to do the cone shape.

A pile of rolled up papers that have text on it.

Before you just start gluing them onto your cardboard, start by putting FOUR rolled sheets of paper onto your ring.
Glue the first at 12:00 (thinking of your ring as a clock).  Your second at 3:00, your third at 6:00, your fourth at 9:00.

Do your first layer and then start on your second layer.

That’s it- just glue & move on, until you get the whole thing done!

SO- how do you hang them?   These are light-weight, so I used the Gecko Tech® Reusable Hooks™ from Duck Brand®.

I LOVE these because of three reasons:
1- they are clear- so you can’t see them.   (I just put a little hole in the cardboard at the top to hook this on).   They are great.

2- They are completely reusable.  They don’t have a sticker or anything, they are just covered in microsuctions so you can use it again and again (such a great money saver!)

3- It works on every surface that I’ve tested it on.   I even had my friend, Jen, try them with  her paper wreath and she loved it, too.

Here are her results:

(completely off subject, but I even gave our son some of these hooks to hang his metals on that he has won playing sports… he has them in his room and they look great and he is so proud!  The hooks are clear, so it is really hidden behind his metals.  (You can get these in Meijer stores.)
