Hello, it is Keri, from Living In This Season, sharing again today, and we are talking all about dating your spouse. I know for my husband and I, dates are a very pricey thing now that we have 3 kids. Babysitter cost, dinner cost, movie, or whatever you decide to do… It all adds up fast. So instead of always going out, sometimes we just stay in. Here are some creative at home date ideas to help you get started.
(1) Get Outside
Whether you have a front porch, a back deck, a campfire pit, whatever it may be… get outside and enjoy it together. Bring some marshmallows to roast, drinks to drink, whatever you choose and enjoy the evening together
(bring the monitor so you can hear & see your kids if needed).
(2) Play a Game
Cards, board games… pull them out of the dust and have fun!

(3) Have a Late Dinner
Let’s face it, meal times with kids can be rather hectic right? Feed the kids as usual, sit down and snack a little while they eat. Get the kids in bed. Now you can either make a dinner together or one of you can run out to get take out from one of your favorite restaurants while the other one sets up a nice little ‘restaurant’ type of area in the house
(we love to eat on our back porch).
(4) Watch a TV series
We have gone through so many television series together thanks to Netflix. It is always a great time of connection for us as we talk about the shows and share a common interest. Make it a habit to only watch shows together and this will be a life-long thing that you can do at night. Meet up every night on the couch at 8:00 to watch your favorite series… Those little moments together now are the ones that make all the difference in the long run.
(5) Do a Project Together
A friend of mine recently built a farmhouse table with her husband. Neither of them had done this before, they just did it- together.
Here are a few ideas to get you started:
DIY mudroom bench or this DIY birthday sign or even a DIY water and sand table for the kids
(6) Take Turns Planning
Something that can be fun is to take turns planning an evening at home. Take turns planning the night. You could plan on week and he could plan the next week (don’t let each other in on the plans until its time to get started… that’s half of the fun-
the surprise!)
Remember, the point of dating your husband is to spend time together and connect. Don’t ever let a lack of funds keep you from spending time together.

Nice list! It is really hard to “date” my husband these days. We have two little kids and no family nearby. Opposite schedules don’t really help either. I think I’m going to have to give some of these a try this month!

Keri, I love dating my husband at home. Our marriage thrives on an early bedtime, so when we want a date, we eat late! We also love playing games and hanging out on our balcony on a nice warm evening. I think we are going to try take turns planning because a surprise would be so much fun! Have a great day!

This is a great post!! We have two little ones (ages 2 and 1) and just moved to NC from AZ. We have no babysitters as of yet, so stay-at-home dates are vital!! Every Friday night (tonight, haha…clearly we’re not very good at this!!) we have an “at home date night” where we get the girls to bed early and cook dinner just the two of us (tonight we ate with the girls since I was making a dish they would like!).
