Did you know that school-aged children get 8-12 colds per year, according to CNN?   The cold accounts for 22 millions missed days of school!   Crazy, right?  Other than the obvious… good hand-washing, here are a few more tips to keep the germs from spreading from the classroom to your house.

back to school sickness

1- Get them moving! Regular exercise helps our body to resist infections!  Here are a few ideas.

2- A cool bath or shower after a workout is great to help circulate immunity. (People have been doing this for over 2,000 years to restore health!)

3. Take your vitamins! Give your kids a daily vitamin. I love our Balanced Essentials (you can read about it here). If you are having trouble eating every food that you should in the day, taking a multivitamin is great way to help your body to fill those gaps.

4- Sleep!! I recently read a study that said that two groups of people were ‘given a cold’. One group slept for 8 hours. The other group had under seven. Which group was more likely to get a respitory infection? The 7 hour group… THREE TIMES HIGHER!

5- Eat fresh garlic. It boosts immunity!

6- Treat your symptoms when you first notice them! Since each cold can last from six days to two weeks each!), we try to help our kids to feel a little better with the NEW Dr. Cocoa™ for Children (https://www.DrCocoa.com.) It is the first-ever chocolate flavored, over-the-counter liquid cough and cold medicine line for children ages 4-13!  I’ve tried it & it is great… seriously!  The chocolate taste, (made with real cocoa), combined with effective ingredients, means that our kids are happy to take the medicine. It really helps them to feel better (and finally sleep. I don’t know about you, but my kids are up all night when they aren’t feeling well… poor babies it makes my heart sad.)   According to Dr. Cocoa’s new national Harris survey of U.S. parents of school-aged children (ages 4-13), almost 40% of parents said it isn’t easy to give their children over-the-counter liquid cough/cold medicines, with one third of parents believing the taste of the medicine impacted how easy it was to give their child the recommended dose. Dr. Cocoa™ for Children was developed with its real chocolate flavor just for this reason. You can find out more on their Facebook page

7- Of course, this last bonus #7 goes without saying… Pray for your child.   It works.  I have a child to prove it.
