I love the holidays.  We decorate early, we make holiday crafts, bake holiday treats and just enjoy the season.  I even have my table decorated & ready for the season (and ready to have my family over for dinner!)

A table topped with plates of food and wine glasses.

I do find that so many people are overwhelmed during the holidays, but I can understand why…

We are invited to so many parties, asked to volunteer at so many places, encouraged to buy too many toys, expected to be so many places… but it doesn’t have to be that way.   Think about this: what would happen if you said no to one of those things?  What if you just said “no” to a party or “no” to buying that extra gift?   What if instead you said “yes” to feeling better, ‘yes” to taking a moment to yourself, “yes” to feeling calm instead of chaotic?

Although it took many years, Mickey has started to understand why I try to be this way and why I don’t worry about things that might worry someone else.  The answer is ‘What’s the worst that could happen?’   If we miss a party, what’s the worst that could happen?  We stay home and watch a movie instead?  We have dinner, put the kids to bed, grab a glass of wine & read a book that we’ve been wanting to read for a month?  Sounds good to me!   If we make crafts or baked goods and we get a little messy… what’s the worst that can happen?  We clean it up and have great memories (& gifts!)

Rolled out cookie dough with a Christmas tree cookie cutter resting on it.

If we can’t bake those cookies, what’s the worst that could happen?   We make them another night?  We pick some up at the store instead?     Both options work.   Yep… it is crazy and a little chaotic (like the chaos that comes with making Christmas Sugar Cookies in our house), but it is joyful & happy and that’s what Christmas is in our family…

Yesterday, I sent Mickey to pick up wine for Thanksgiving dinner.  He went to a store near us where he had more choices than he knew what to do with, so I told him to just grab a 1.5L of either Chardonnay, Moscato, Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, or Pinot. All of these varietals can be found among the list of Gallo Family Vineyard Wines . If you aren’t sure where to buy just check out that website.  I was inspired by the Gallo Family Vineyards Facebook page to bring a few new wines.

When he came home, he said that the shopping plaza was crazy.  I laughed because I actually love that kind of shopping – when everyone is out, happy to be buying things for the holidays and just shopping to their heart’s content.  We’re different in that way!   haha!!    When you can look at life through your “What’s the worst that could happen?   Ok then… we’re fine.” type of glasses, you see that there is joy in almost every moment if you just look for the happiness, peacefulness & joy in it.

Then go out & enjoy a little more of the cheerful chaos of Christmas…
