Hands putting a band aid on a little girl\'s knee with text above her.
“Mom! Mom!  My boo-boo!” Allie cries as she comes running into the room with no “boo-boo” in sight. She proceeds to point out her invisible “boo-boo” that she got on her leg. I’m not surprised that it hurts because I heard her fall. But there is no “boo-boo” there.

So, what do we do? (Get ready for my little confession… and don’t tell Allie!)

I just happen to have a stash of “Fairy Pixie Dust” in my pantry – right in between the Children’s Advil® and bandages. It is in a pretty little jar, but the actual “Pixie Dust” is invisible.

I sprinkle Allie’s “boo-boo” with the dust and it works its magic. It’s just one of the little lies that makes a “boo-boo” go away.

When our daughter gets a “Boo-Boo…” we sprinkle invisible Pixie Dust on it..sent to us straight from a Fairy. It works every time.

Here are four more ideas to get those “boo-boos” away:

Hold a crystal. Our older boys are really into collecting crystals and rocks. Last week, when Allie hurt her hand, our son, Ethan, brought her a crystal to hold. He told her that it would make her feel better. Guess what she asked for the next time she got hurt? Yep – a crystal.

A kiss. We all know that a kiss will make you feel better. Can’t forget about that one.

Holding a pet. When our kids get hurt, I call our pets over to them. The dog comes running and our kitten is never hard to find.  Blame it on the distraction, but it works.

A bubble bath. Nothing like a bubble bath with toys to take your troubles away. It works for kids, too!

Of course, when you have a real boo-boo, such as aches and pains due to the common cold, flu, headaches and toothaches, stick with what works – Children’s Advil®.

  1. Think we’ll borrow the fairy dust idea! Our 5-1/2 year old likes the crystals — she has an enormous rock collection and we should go through and pick out a couple of special “healing” ones. My mom is into essential oils and our daughter frequently asks for a particular oil that her grandma has put on owies in the past. Now with a little fairy dust added to the mix, we should be in good shape.

  2. Our favourite: cold packs which I keep in the fridge, not freezer. I have some shaped as cupcakes, and “a cupcake” makes it better every time!
