Oh, getting rid of the the pacifier is hard work!  My brother and Sister-in-Law decided to use Build a Bear to get rid of the pacifier and I had to share that idea with you!

clever way to get rid of the paciI used a pacifier with our first son and we loved it, until he was almost three and still using it.  He only used one pacifier- the others weren’t the same to him, so he used just one.  By the time he was 2 1/2, it was ripping and we were worried that he would choke on it, so it was time to get rid of it.

I actually just cut it – I cut the top part right off.  I showed him and he helped.   Then he tried to use it and told me that it it was broke.  He threw it away and that was that.    I’ll have to write a post one day about how we transitioned him from using it all day to only at bedtime.

Anyways, my niece, LB, is now 2 1/2 and my brother and sister-in-law wanted to get rid of her pacifier, too (she was potty trained in three days with my potty training method).   They heard a really great idea and I loved it and had to share it with you.

My brother & sister-in-law took LB out for the day.  They went to the mall and into Build-a-Bear.  They let her pick out a stuffed animal (she picked out the bunny) See below:

She knew that she was going to put her pacifier into the bunny and that she would get to hold her bunny all night long, because she didn’t need her pacifier anymore because she is “a big girl now.”

Here is the picture that my brother took as my niece was taking her pacifier from her Mom and getting ready to put it into her bunny…

Next, they stuffed the bear (the kids get to help by pushing on the pedal that puts the stuffing into your animal.

Next, they took her pacifier and when they ask you to place the heart inside of the bear, they also placed the pacifier in there.  (Well, it was a bunny).

That was it.  The pacifier went into the bunny and they sewed it up.

(She took it home and dressed it up in one of her cute tutu’s).

I was sure that they would find stuffing in her room the next morning, as she ripped her bunny apart to find her paci, but they didn’t.  Instead, they found a little girl, sound asleep, holding her Pacifier stuffed Bunny.

She shows me her bunny often and tells me about it (she has the vocabulary of a four year old!)

I think this is such a fun and clever way to eliminate the pacifier!

How did you do get rid of your child’s pacifier?   Did your kids use a pacifier?
