Last year, I posted a series called 40 days to an organized home. This year, with New Years resolutions starting and Christmas gifts pouring in (leaving less room for things), I wanted to do a little re-cap on that series.

I am in the re-organizing and de-cluttering stage at our house right now (I think that we all need to do this several times a year to stay on top of things… think of it as a “spring cleaning” all year round.)

I am going to take you through our house and share info and photos with you.  I will re-post a new “area” for you to review every day. Take your time and come back when you are ready to move forward.  We will start with reviewing the tips to organize your kitchen.

Everyone needs to re-organize and de-clutter at some point and today just might be that day for you!

Don’t wait- lets jump right in!  Don’t put off for tomorrow what you don’t want to do today (your future self will not want to do it tomorrow, either!  Just dive in and work on it today… as my Dad always says “Time moves on no matter what we do”, so we can just wait or we can do something now and in a week, we will have accomplished something or nothing.)

Lets get organizing!
Oh- I will include a little sneak peek into the full post on here, as well, so that you can see what you are ready for each day.

Day 1- Organize your refrigerator

tips to organize your refrigerator

The refrigerator: I know, not too much fun, but it will get you started.
Take some time out of your day today to work on this. Give yourself a good thirty minutes. Be prepared with cleaning supplies, saran wrap or press n seal, a sharpie, tape or labels, garbage bags and containers & baggies.

Starting on the inside:

– Take everything out of your refrigerator (make sure that you have at least 30 minutes to do this because you can’t leave your food sitting out for too long). I would do the freezer section after you do the refrigerator section, to give yourself more time, to avoid thawing your food….. Click here to read more on organizing your refrigerator

Next, you will move onto organizing your cabinets and drawers.

organize your cabinets and drawers

Step #1 – CABINETS: Combine like items. If you have a lot of plastic bowls, combine them & throw away or donate what you do not use. I have three mixing bowls. If you need more, keep more, but you don’t need to have more than you need in your house. Consolidate & declutter!

To do this, empty your cabinets. Look at ALL of the things that you have & start getting rid of things! Make three piles….  read more about how to  Organize Your Cabinets & Drawers.

Lets talk about how to Organize your pantry

An organized panrty shelving area with text above it.

In our pantry, I keep snack foods on the second shelf. It is high enough that our toddler can not get them, but low enough that our 4 and 6 year old can reach them (after asking if they can have a snack). I like them to get it themselves: (see this link for more info) on your kids … and this one .

I also keep our napkins on the lowest shelf (again- so that our kids can take care of their own needs, if they are simple needs that they can handle). I also keep our chore basket on the lowest shelf for our kids to be able to reach it.

I keep our medicine box on our top shelf. I use a big box and put all of our medicines in it. This includes everything that we do not use DAILY. Our Daily medicines: (Vitamins…) go in a little container above our oven. None of the kids can reach it, even if they get on a chair or on the counter. Both places for medicine are COMPLETELY out of reach for our children…. read more about how to organize your pantry here.
