Organizing kids art supplies 1

If you are just starting the 40 days to an organized home with me, check out day one and go from there.

Today: Organizing kids art supplies

Do you ever feel like your kids have so many art supplies and want to have them organized and contained? I have some that my kids can get at any time, but others (paint), I want to keep out of their reach!

I am going to show you some great ideas for Organizing kids art supplies.

First off, as you probably saw in the “organize your pantry” post, we have a little art spot in our pantry when I keep an organizer. In this area, each of our kids has a little “box” – they cost $1 at most stores. I wrote their names on them and it is THEIR box.

Inside each of these I have:
1 box of crayons (50 cents)
1 box of makers (about $1)
1 pair of scissors ($1)
3-4 sharpened pencils (less than $1 for a huge pack & I divide them)

They are in charge of their box. They can get them out whenever they want and put them back when they are finished. Our two year old needs some help with this, but practice makes perfect, right?

I also keep white (printer) paper available for them to use anytime.

On the back of our pantry door, I keep an organizer filled with art supplies. This is an easy thing to use when organizing kids art supplies.

In a box ABOVE our stove (Out of reach of little fingers), I keep their paint supplies, glitter and messy things. I keep everything that has a potential for mess in a container above the stove (very close to our pantry door). This container that holds everything: paint bottles, paint brushes, sponges to use for painting, water colors…

I love these ideas, too:

Keep little things, like buttons or beads, in a plastic container or tackle box with small divider sections. This will make it easier to get to.

This is perfect if you need an art supply area in your kids rooms. I would add a little latch with a lock on it to keep our toddler out of it.

In our kid’s rooms, we have little buckets on a rod.  I love it because our kids can EASILY keep up with putting their crayons and markers away. All of us have it above little tables in our kid’s rooms or play rooms.
The buckets that we have are similar to these ones, but I am posting this picture because I love the peg-board wall. This would be an awesome homework station, too!

  2. I love your idea’s!! But I need help! We are a homeschooling family and so books and everything else is a tool used for ‘school’. I had a huge bookshelf with books etc. on it in the living room but recently sent it upstairs to a bedroom bc it felt like it was just not suppose to be there. So now there is more room in the LR and we love that but now where do we put the books that we use for the time being/week or even day? We don’t have a coffee table as it to would just take up room that is used for running and jumping and playing games. So now I have no place to put anything and its on my kitchen table. Which is not good as you can imagine. Any thoughts or suggestions would be sooo helpful!
And thank you for the work you do!
