Every day, I have the choice… do I spend my ‘free time’ cleaning or playing?  I try to find ways to clean without taking too much time.  Every moment you save means more precious time with your family.   Keeping your home smelling great and germ-free doesn’t have to be a multi-step process. For this reason, I have partnered with Clorox to introduce Clorox® Scentiva™ products.  They clean, disinfect and deodorize. With one less task on the to-do list, the next question you’ll need to answer is: How do I spend all the extra time I saved?

Our family LOVES to play cake wars, so I wanted to show you how to play today.  It is a fun family activity.  It does get messy, but like I said, Clorox® Scentiva™  is the key there. 🙂

Here’s how it works.  You are the judge.  Your kids are the contestants.
Start by cleaning and disinfecting the surface.

Step 1: Bake cupcakes.
We like to use our big flower pan to make big cupcakes.

Step 2: Set your table
Set the table with everything that you have at home to decorate.  Candy, icing, chocolate, colored icing (we just dye our own) Set it out.  I let each of the kids have a spoon and they use the back of the spoon to put the icing on (it makes it easier than a knife).

Step 3: Everyone picks a cupcake and the game is on!
They just start decorating.  The goal is to come up with the most creative cupcake!

Step 4: Everyone picks what they want to put on it.
Remind them that they are being judged on creativity. 🙂

Step 5: Presentation.
Each child presents the cupcake to you, talking about how they made it, why they chose the colors & toppings.

They like to put them all side-by-side and let us walk by and look at them:

The kids have SO much fun with it!

When you are finished, grab your Clorox® Scentiva™ and clean up.  It won’t take long.

These smell SO good, so you’ll be happy that you used it.  It does the cleaning, disinfecting and deodorizing all at the same time, so it saves time.  Plus, it helps kill harmful bacteria and viruses, which I don’t want with four kids!  Now you can clean, disinfect and deodorize all in one step, saving you time to tackle the more important things in life. 🙂

You won’t have to choose between products that clean well & products that smell good anymore- Clorox® Scentiva™ does both.

So… Clorox & I wanted to offer you something to help you spend LESS time on cleaning and MORE time with your family! 🙂

  1. We love playing hot lava (or hot saliva as my toddler calls it!) with extra time if read more books or go for more bike rides this summer!! Love the idea of cake wars!

  2. Cake wars or donut wars sounds like a fun idea! My boys love to help me cook and I am glad that they take interest in it. They love cracking eggs, mixing things up, and their favorote part is eating the finished product with the pride of knowing they made it! When we do have extra time after getting the necessary work done, we love to play outside, or play a family board game like sorry, connect four, or pie face. I hope to add more complicated games as they grow older, but these are exciting and can keep their attention for now at ages 6, 4, and 2, (and we now have one on the way!). Thanks for posting!

  3. I find it so hard to balance cleaning with “fun time”! My kids would absolutely love presenting their cupcake and decorating ideas. What a fun idea that turns into a yummy snack!

  4. How fun! My kiddos love when I join in on a simple game of tag around the house. Even the dog has fun. 😉

  5. Going on bike rides is one of our favorite family things to do!

  6. We love using oil pastels together when we have free time, or getting into the garden to plant.

  7. My girls would love to play cake wars! It would be cute for a party, too. We like to play outside, read books, watch movies, listen to records, and do craft projects together (some of these are just the girls and me, some are the whole family, some are the girls and their daddy).

  8. Currently the fun activity is playing restaurant with what ever is for dinner. My daughters make a menu (with prices of course) , we order, they serve, add up the bill and all. They seem to love it and they are doing Math! (Don’the tell them) lol. We are a very busy family so I try to just play as much as possible along with whatever we may be doing. The cupcake wars is such a good idea, thanks for posting!

  9. We’ve done this for a birthday party! So fun … the kids and adults all had a great time. We will definitely do it again.

  10. We’ve done cupcake wars at our house -it’s great for kid parties! One Halloween we added candy corn, Oreo crumbles & gummy worms for the scare factor & yes, you definitely need a good clean up afterwards! As a family of artists, we also have painting sessions & polymer clay time at the kitchen table too! It’s good to have a surface you can just wipe down afterwards lol!

  11. We have family night every week. Make homemade pizza (the kids help so that can get messy!) Watch a movie. Have a dance party to the ending credit songs. Then play board games until bed time. Any extra time would be more time for board games! Family cake wars sound like so much fun. Definitely going to have to give it a try!

  12. What a great idea my kids and I love to bake together. I know if we had the extra time we would spend it going to the parks and hiking to find waterfalls! We love to do that!

  13. My daughter is 2 years old, our current favorite activity is playing dress up ran up! We get all dressed up and pretty, put on some music and dance while we clean the house.. make a cleaning fun and she LOVES to help!!
