When I was little, my favorite thing to do was to have a sleepover on my back screened-in porch. I would have sleepovers out there for my birthday parties, with my friends, or just with my family. I can remember swinging on my porch swing, talking to friends, eating candy… what could be better? A special treat paired with a special treat! 🙂 Thanks to WholesomeWholesome for partnering with me today, so I could share this story & tradition with you.
Now that we have four children and a great screened-in-porch (thanks to Mickey, my dad & my brother for building it!) I was ready to let our kids have the same experience. I told them that once school was out, we would all gather up our sleeping bags, blankets, pillows and snacks for a porch-sleepover. They counted down the days! And then it happened!
Last week we had our first one and it was a blast. We played outside, played board games and then got ready for bed. This is when I pulled out their last surprise: their favorite snacks!
I grabbed grapes (for Ethan), Trail mix (for Jack) and Wholesome Organic DelishFish for Beau & Allie. They all ended up having a lot of each snack, but I didn’t mind because I choose better-for-you snacks on purpose.
We love Wholesome because they are the leader in organic, Fair Trade Certified, non-GMO Verified sugars, sweeteners, and treats.
This made their newest product, Organic DelishFish, even more enticing for me! They sweeten moments like these ones, by using real and recognizable ingredients. Just like your family time: real and not artificial. These fish-shaped candies were so good! Just ask Allie…
They are made with organic, clean ingredients and they are free of artificial colors and flavors. Instead of high fructose corn syrup, the candy is sweetened with Wholesome Organic Cane Sugar and is USDA Organic, Gluten Free, Vegan and Kosher. It’s a win-win.
The candy can be purchased at most Whole Foods, Sprouts, H-E-B, Stop & Shop and Giant stores. You can use the store locator to find it… or just buy it on Wholesome’s online store or on Amazon.
After they had snacks, we told stories. It’s not often that we all get to sit around and just talk, but the rule was that they had to stay in their sleeping bags if they wanted to talk. They talked for about two hours before they fell asleep!
I can definitely see this tradition living on in our house. The only downside was the early wake-up time, thanks to the sun, but they woke up happy when they realized that they were still on the porch with their whole family… even the dog! 🙂
All in all, the porch sleepover was a huge success!
