I am a sucker for a good love story. Nicholas Sparks books are definitely my favorite, so today I wanted to share my five favorite ‘beach books’. I call them ‘beach books’ because these are the books that l listen to while I’m at the beach. These books are just to pass the time, they provide a feeling of happiness. They leave you feeling hopeful, inspired and ready to take on the day. They just make you want to look for the best in others & in yourself. So… I take my favorite ones to the beach.

In case you missed my post a few months ago, I shared my tip for reading while I watch my kids at the beach: it’s Audible. That’s my tip. Audible is well-known for having the best audiobook performances. They also have a huge library of books & some really exclusive content. What’s better than a book that you can LISTEN TO while you sit on the beach watching your kids play?

More & more I have found that listening to audiobooks is such a unique experience. I really feel like I can become immersed in the story.

If you are new to Audible, it is an Amazon.com, Inc. subsidiary, is the leading provider of premium digital spoken audio information and entertainment, offering customers a new way to enhance and enrich their lives every day. They offer a free trial for 30 days, so take advantage of that & pick your favorite book from my list below:

1- The Notebook. It’s a no-brainer. Allie & Noah were teenagers in love, in coastal North Carolina, after World War II. More than a decade later, Allie is going to marry a wealthy lawyer, but she still loves Noah Calhoun. Noah had never stopped loving Allie.
I could not love this book more. If you don’t believe me… just look at our own “Allie”. When this book first came out, I was dating Mickey and I said “If we ever have a daughter, I want to name her Allie.” We welcomed our Allie in 2012.

2- Dear John. I didn’t know if I was going to like this one when it first came out, but I did. I closed that last page with tears in my eyes. His books never disappoint. I read one time that he said that all good books have sad endings… this one was no different. John is a rebel who went to the army. One summer he meets Savannah and they fall in love. She waits for him to finish his tour of duty, but then 9/11 happened and changed everything. You’ll have to listen to the book to find out if Savannah waits for him… 😉

3- Safe Haven. This one is a little different from his normal books, but I loved it. It was easy to get wrapped up in the action of this one and I was on the edge of my beach-chair waiting for the next words to be read to me. It was like he couldn’t read fast enough! Katie, the main character, runs away from her abusive husband and relocates to a small town in North Carolina. She changes her identity, falls in love with Alex and hopes that she will never be found… this one gets good!

4- The Lucky One. This is a great book! It’s a story about a man whose near-death leads him to his love. He finds her picture and when he reaches to get it, a bomb nearly kills him. The picture saved him. He finds the mysterious woman in the picture and… well.. you have to read it to find out!

5- A Walk To Remember. I’m including this one for my friend (and college roomate), Julia. She loves this book so much and she was the person that introduced me to this book & movie. This story of Landon & Jamie Sullivan, the daughter of the town’s Baptist minister, is a love-story with reading (or listening to).

I love the way that these books make me feel: relaxed, hopeful, peaceful. I think that nearly all of his books take place in Coastal North Carolina, so maybe that’s why I have such a connection to his books. Maybe it’s the way that they make you feel so happy when you are reading them or listening to them. Whatever the reason… this list is my favorite and I’d love for you to try them out!
